Family before Office

With 30 years of experience working for family offices, it's evident that things are changing. The technical side of the job is taking on more weight, while the "family" aspect in "family office" is becoming less of a focus. Perhaps it's time to reconnect both elements.

Take hiring, for example. The focus can be on hiring the best talent—the individuals with the perfect hard skills, soft skills, experience, and so on. Alternatively, emphasis can be placed on loyalty. Quoting a notable first boss in this field: “In our family office, loyalty far exceeds competence.” This might seem a bit excessive to some.

Working for a family office is, first and foremost, working for the family. It isn’t just a job like any other corporate position.
